Last week I got to see the city from a new (to me) view, from the observatory at the John Hancock tower, 360 Chicago. I’ve been to the skydeck at the Willis Tower a few times, but I’ve heard that the view from the Hancock is different, and in some cases even better.
Plus, 360 Chicago added Tilt – a platform that moves you to a 30 degree tilt outside of the tower. Even though I’m not at all afraid of heights (and I’m fearless in the glass boxes of the skydeck), there is something disconcerting about being tilted outside a building and it being outside of your control.
So is the view better from the John Hancock? I wouldn’t call it better, just different. It’s a better view of the lakeshore to the north, and the iconic view of downtown Chicago with the Sears Tower taking center stage.
For those that aren’t afraid of heights, trying out Tilt is a must! It’s scarier than it looks!
360 Chicago is located in the John Hancock tower in Chicago’s Gold Coast.
